You’ve been dating your significant other for quite some time, and have enjoyed relaxing weekends with them during the warmer months. However, now that the weather is beginning to cool down, you may be wondering, “What are some good date ideas for the fall?”
Which I personally think it’s a good approach because planning for summer and fall dates can be like night and day. So, being proactive is super helpful! Some key things to keep in mind while brainstorming some date ideas are the weather and any close holidays.
For instance, during the summer or spring, you might have to deal with heat waves or rain (which in some cases can be temporary). On the other hand, if you plan an outdoor date during the fall, you might have to completely cancel it because of chilly or inclement weather.
And you wouldn’t want to have a date carving pumpkins when it wasn’t close to Halloween (I mean you could, but I’m not sure how your boyfriend/girlfriend would react to it. But, maybe they’ll think it’s cute!)
So, as I said earlier, the main point is to make sure that you’re super aware of the weather and of any upcoming holidays when you’re setting up a date.
But don’t worry if you can’t think of any date ideas for fall because I am going to share some of the following ideas in this post. So, stick around!

Ideas For Dates On A Budget
Since the end of the year is approaching, you’re probably saving money for the holidays. So, I’ve included some inexpensive date ideas for fall below.
Go out for breakfast
The price of breakfast foods is pretty affordable. So, if you’re trying to have a budget-friendly date, this is a perfect date idea! And, while you’re there, you can try some fall-themed breakfast ideas. Or if you aren’t a big breakfast person, you can try a fall drink (such as pumpkin spice lattes).
Mini scavenger hunt
Having a mini scavenger hunt is another fun fall date idea! You can keep it in your backyard, house, or nearby neighborhood so you don’t have to travel too far. And, to make it fair, you can have a friend create the clues!
Visit A Museum
Museum exhibits change regularly, so you can plan several date ideas around them. Also, don’t forget to look in your local area for smaller museums that may be less expensive than popular ones.
Volunteer As A Couple
Volunteering during the holidays is a wonderful way for you to show gratitude and kindness to others. Some areas where you can volunteer are fall festivals, haunted houses, and shelters. Also, many places have Thanksgiving dinner for seniors and the homeless. So, you guys could spend time together and help others enjoy Thanksgiving Day.
Visit the fair/carnival
Since there are so many things to do over the fair, it would be a great date to go in the fall. Just make sure that you get an armband if you’re going on a lot of rides (which will save you a lot of money) and try not to spend too much money on games and food.
Also, here are some other ways that you can save on your date to the fair.
Go shopping at the thrift store/consignment shop
I know you are wondering how thrifting counts as a date, but I thought of a few things that I think could be fun date ideas! I’ll list them below.
- Shop For Fall Clothes – The weather is changing, so you can always go shopping for fall appropriate clothing like cardigans, jackets, and sweaters.
- Dress Up A Scarecrow – You can challenge each other to see who can make the best outfit for your scarecrow. The scarecrow will wear the winning outfit.
- Thrift Your Halloween Costumes – Here’s another challenge that I think would make a fun fall date idea. Try thrifting each other’s Halloween costume! You never know what you’ll find.
Go To A Halloween Party
Speaking of costumes, a perfect place to show off your thrifted get-up is at a Halloween party.
Fun Date Ideas At Night
Sometimes, you’ll be going out at night, so I wanted to make sure that I included some fun fall date nights.
Go on A Hayride
A hayride is a simple date that you can go on with your significant other. And then afterward, you two could go to dinner.

Go to a drive in Movie
A drive-in movie is a classic date idea. If you want to make it cozier, you can bring some blankets and bundle up.
Go Stargazing
Besides being romantic, star-gazing is a beautiful thing to see. Also, stargazing in the autumn is one of the best times to see the night sky clearly.
Go to a bonfire party
Fall is a great time to attend bonfire parties, so if you’re invited to one, it would make a great date.
Have A Murder Mystery Party
It would be cool to go to a murder mystery party if you and your partner like classic whodunnit shows or solving crime cases. This would also be a great group date activity if some other couples would like to join.
Host A Game Night
Game nights aren’t just for fun; they’re also a great way to bond. Plus, you can play fun board and video games with other couples!
Host A Kaoroke Night
This will be a fun date idea if you like music and like to sing. Also, having a karaoke night can be for free, just use your phone and an app like Smule. Or you can try to find free karaoke videos on YouTube.
Visit A Haunted House
If you guys like scares and thrills, then a haunted house might be a fun date idea.
Go To Local Events
Check out your local event calendar and Facebook for other events that you can go to. They might have other events that you can go to like concerts, shows, and more.
Also, an extra tip for any of these outdoor events is to make sure that you have warm clothing to wear. You never know how the weather will be!
Fun Date Ideas At Home
All of your dates won’t involve going out to other places. So, here are some stay at home date ideas for you.
Have Pumpkin Carving Date
Show off your creative skills by seeing who can carve the best pumpkin.
Have A Movie Night
Don’t forget to bring popcorn for your movie marathon. And, if you want to watch something seasonal, you can watch either a Halloween or Thanksgiving film.
Baked favorite fall dessert – pumpkin pie, apple pie, etc.
Try Couples Yoga
Since the weather might not be great outside, this might be the right time to get into your activewear and do some couples yoga.
Make Candied Apples
Make your own candy apples this fall. These are a classic fall treat.
DIY Autumn Decorations
Those of you who are creative might find it fun to make some fall decorations for your place. Some great fall DIY decorations you can make are fall wreaths, rustic signs, and table centerpieces.

Having a tailgate party at home can be just as enjoyable as tailgating outside and it’s less expensive. But if you favor tailgating outside, there are still ways that you can save money.
Fun Date Ideas That Are Free
You don’t have to always spend money to have a great date, which is why I’ve included some free date ideas that you can go on in the fall.
Visit A Pumpkin Patch
Pumpkin patches are usually free to the public, so you can go on a date there if you’re trying to have a budget-friendly date. And if you need a pumpkin for the holidays you can look for some too.
Visit The Farmers Market
Farmers markets usually open up in the morning during fall, so they can be a good place to go if you guys have to meet early in the morning.
Go To The Bookstore
Going to a bookstore is a great date idea if you both enjoy reading. You can spend the day reading from your favorite books or, if you really love it, you can even buy a few.

Fall festivals are super fun! You can do cakewalk, obstacle courses, bean bag toss, and more .
Go On A Walk In The Park
You and your significant other can go take a walk in the park (or even a hike) if it’s not too cold. You can also try other activity like feeding the ducks in the park. Or if don’t have a pond, you can feed the birds.
Go For A Fall Drive
A fall drive is the perfect way to experience the lovely autumn scenery and also spend time with your significant other.
