Have you ever experienced having a million emails in your inbox, but you only need to see a handful of them?
So, instead of only reading the ones that you need to, you have to preview all of them (which not only wastes your time, but can also distract you and reduce your productivity). So, an easy solution is to assign a specific category to different email accounts.
Of course, you can argue that instead of doing this, you can separate a singular email into multiple categories. But, having multiple email accounts can be more helpful for some people.
Also, I recommend this method because, by breaking up your emails earlier, it helps to keep you on task, boost your productivity, and keep your emails organized.
So, here are my suggestions for the emails that you should have.
Adulting Email
One email that I have (and that I think everyone should have) is an adulting email. This email is great to use when you’re signing up for online bill payments, creating a bank account, signing up for voter’s registration, and more.
It’ll also useful for when other people/companies need to contact you about things such as: appointments, banking information, taxes, housing, and credit. So, basically, this email is for essential “adulting” tasks related to your health, finances, housing, insurance, and more.
Business Email
Creating a business email is great for when you have a side hustle, own your own business, or work a lot of freelance jobs. Why? Well, creating a separate email account makes it easier for you to notice when you have a new job to start or if you’re client has questions about your work.
You should create a “business” email if you’re doing things such as:
- YouTube (and it’s monetized/you’re planning to monetize it)
- Babysitting
- House Sitting
- Lawn Care
- Graphic Design
- Photography
- Tutoring
- Etsy
- Makeup
- Creating Websites
It’s also best if you create an email with a professional name. So, mrdrinksalot423@xxxxx.com might not be the best pick (unless your side hustle is related to it).
Junk Email
I’m pretty sure that we have all entered our email into a website to get a freebie or to create an account with the site just so that you can access the content that you needed. However, it can get quite annoying when you’re getting updates from those sites, but you’re trying to look at other emails that are relevant to the task at hand instead. So, having a junk email can be helpful.
The concept of a junk email is the same as that of a junk drawer; you sign up for content that is in some respects useful, but not as useful as it may seem. So, you use this account for non-essential emails.
Some examples of when this might come in handy is when you’re creating an account at an online store, signing up for social media, or subscribing to a blog newsletter.
On the other hand, some people might use this more like a temporary email account.
Work/School Email
You don’t usually need to create an email specifically for work (or school) because they usually set one up for you. However, if you still wanted to create one for when you’re job searching or signing up for college/scholarships, then go ahead!
Having a separate account can help you to easily sort through any work-related emails or any information that is essential for your college attendance.
I hope that you enjoyed this post! Which email are you going to create now?

These are some awesome lists – when I was in university I definitely had a couple accounts to manage among my different tasks/responsibilities! I love how outlook helps keep them al organized for you now 🙂 Thanks for this great post!
Wow, that’s neat! I didn’t work with Outlook for long, so I didn’t know that it helped to categorize emails. Thanks for the information! I’m definitely going to be looking into it!
