It’s summer break, which, in terms of vacations, happens to be one of the busiest times of the year. However, it will be a little tricky to take a trip now due to the pandemic. So, what can you do about it? Try having a staycation instead!

Now, what is a staycation you may ask? A staycation is simply a way for someone to experience a vacation, but without traveling far from their home. Which is a great alternative to replace your annual summer trip.

So, if you are in need of a vacation, check out this list of staycation ideas that you can do this summer.

Staycation Idea #1: Go To The Park

If you need a change of pace and need to get outside, try going to the park! You can have a picnic, go on a hike, or even play a game of soccer. Just make sure that you are social distancing, wearing a mask (if you are getting close to others), and keeping your hands clean.

Staycation Idea #2: Host A Gaming Tournament

If you would rather take a technical approach to things, try hosting a gaming tournament. Pick a game, select a group of ‘competitors’, choose a prize, and start your tournament.

And the best part is that some games will allow you to host the tournament completely remotely!

Staycation Idea #3: Try Camping Out

If you’re feeling really adventurous, try camping outside in your yard. You can have all the experience of an actual camping trip, but still be able to go home if the night takes a turn for the worse. And if you want to make the experience authentic, you can try camping out at park.

Staycation Idea #4: Create A Carnival

Another fun activity that you can do this summer break is creating a carnival. You can have the event over a course of days in your backyard (or in your house if you’re limited on space) and host some of the following activities.

  • face painting
  • carnival games (ring toss, bottle pyramid, balloon pop, dunk tank, basketball, races, etc.)
  • eating contest

Staycation Idea #5: Create An Event For Each Day

If you want to have a staycation at home, you could also try having different events for each day. Just think of this as basically summer camp. Some different themes that you can try out are:

  • Movie Day
  • Garden Day
  • Cooking Academy
  • Water World (you can host a pool party if have enough people in the house)
  • Backyard Olympics

Staycation Idea #6: Host A Competition

Something else that you can do at home while ‘vacationing’ is hosting a competition. This can range anywhere from chess to basketball to a cooking match. And, to make it more fun, you can film the competition and put it on your social media to let your family and friends get involved.

Staycation Idea #7: Have A Scavenger Hunt

Another fun summer activity that you can do while enjoying your staycation is a scavenger hunt. Not only is this super fun, but you can also have this event entirely remotely! Just make sure that you have a prize for the winner at the end.

Staycation Idea #8: Car Trips

Here’s another staycation activity for you, have a car trip! As long as you and your travel companions are clear of the virus, you can consider going to some areas nearby. And if you want to take a longer trip, you can consider traveling in an RV or camper to your destination.
