Clorox wipes are quite handy to have on hand when you need to quickly clean up messes or sanitize items. However, this quick cleaning product is becoming extremely hard to find because of the current crisis affecting many across the world.

So, if you are having trouble finding disinfecting wipes, stick around to learn how you can make your own.

How To Create Your Own Disinfectant Wipes Pin 1 683x1024 - Need A Clorox Wipe Alternative? Make Your Own Disinfectant Wipes!

I’m going to be teaching you how to make four different types of cleaning wipes today. The types of wipes will be:

  • Alcohol Disinfectant Wipes
  • Bleach Disinfectant Wipes
  • Cleaner Disinfectant Wipes
  • Natural Disinfectant Wipes

*Disclaimer: Make sure that you wear gloves while making and using your wipes in addition to washing your hands after you are finished with the products. Also, make sure that you follow your solution’s directions when using the product on surfaces that may come in contact with dishes or food items.

But, before we begin, you will have to choose which material that you want to make your disinfectant wipes out of (which would be either paper towels or baby wipes). However, I would highly suggest that you use the wipes because they have a similar consistency to Clorox and Lysol wipes that you can buy in stores.

But before you use them, just make sure to dry them out. To do this quickly, you can just take off the lid to the container (or package) and let it sit in a dry and hot place (such as your garage or car). After it dries out, you’ll be ready to start creating your DIY wipes. However, if you want to use paper towels you’ll have to go through a completely different process.

First, you’ll need to find a container that you will use to store your wipes (such as a glass container or an old disinfectant wipe container). Next, you’ll need to make sure that your paper towel roll can fit in the container width wise. Then, if it fits, cut your paper towel rolls to a height that will fit into your container.

Now, let’s move on to the recipes!

Alcohol Wipes

Now our first recipe that we will create is alcohol wipes. All you need to do is take your desired material (paper towels or wipes) and place them in your designated container.

After they are in there, take about a cup of 70% isopropyl alcohol solution and pour it onto the wipes. Next, let it sit for approximately 5 to 10 minutes to see if the wipes are thoroughly soaked. If your wipes are not moist enough to the touch, you can take about ½ a cup and pour it on the wipes again. And you can continue going through the process of adding more of your solution until your wipes are to your desired level of dampness.

Now, you have alcohol-based wipes for cleaning. And the best thing about them is that they are fairly inexpensive to make and will kill many types of germs and viruses such as coronavirus!

Cleaning Solution Wipes

Now, let’s look at the recipe to create our wipes using popular cleaning solutions. First, you’ll need to choose your favorite store-bought cleaner to begin (If you can’t think of any, a few great ones are Formula 409 Multi-surface Cleaner, Lysol All-Purpose Cleaner, Microban 24 Hour Multi-Purpose Cleaner, and OdoBan Multi-Purpose Cleaner).

Next, all you need to do is follow the same directions listed for the alcohol wipes and you’ll have your favorite cleaning product wipes.

Disinfectant Wipes With Bleach

Now, let’s look at creating your own wipes with bleach (Remember, bleach is a very strong chemical, so make sure that you are wearing appropriate gear such as gloves (and potentially goggles) to protect yourself from chemical burns and other dangers. Also, make sure that your children/pets are not around and cannot reach the solution. And be sure to be in a well-ventilated area).

According to the CDC, you can make a bleach solution by adding 4 teaspoons of bleach per quart of water. So, if you wanted to only create a cup of it, you would need to add one tablespoon of bleach to a cup of water.

However, this solution will only disinfect well for approximately 24 hours. Then, the antiseptic properties of this mixture will begin to fade. So, if you want to create bleach wipes, you should plan to use it by the next day.

Natural Disinfectant Wipes

If you wanted to disinfect naturally and create your own green disinfectant wipes, try this recipe. Just mix 1 part of vinegar to 2 parts of water. And if you want to boost the cleansing effect of this solution, just add a few drops of essential oil. Some oils with great disinfecting qualities are:

  • Peppermint Essential Oil (antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic)
  • Tea Tree Essential Oil (antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral)
  • Eucalyptus Essential Oil (antiseptic, antibacterial)
  • Cinnamon Essential Oil (antibacterial, antimicrobial)
  • Lavender Essential Oil (antiseptic and antifungal)
