Here’s another back-to-school post for any new freshman (or returning students) who are heading back to your college campus! Today, I’m going to talk to you about a few college tips that will help you through the semester. More specifically, I’m going to talk to you about some health and safety tips that will be useful this winter and for upcoming years.
So, without further ado, let’s get started!
College Tips For Students In 2021
College Tip 1: Focus On Preventative Measures
Something that shows up without fail every year is cold and flu season. And, considering the past few years, you’ve probably seen a rise in other illnesses as well. Which is why it’s really important for you to make your health and wellness a priority. So below is some health advice and tips that you can use for college this semester.
Practice Preventative Methods
Ensure that you practice preventative methods as much as you can this year to promote your health and wellness. One way that you can do this is by making a portable sanitizing kit to bring with you. It can include things such as:
- Hand Sanitizer
- Sanitizing Wipes
- Masks (and a back-up mask in a ziplock bag)
- Face Shields
You can also include some items that you would normally have in an emergency kit like bandaids, alcohol towelettes, and pain medication.
Something else that you should consider setting up is a sanitizing station. It can hold items like gloves, disinfecting wipes, and disinfecting spray.
This can be placed near the entrance of your door, which will make it easier to sanitize the things that you need to before entering.
Boost Your Immune System
Boosting your immune system is another health and wellness tip that you should try. One way to do this is by using a combination of Vitamin C and Zinc to help combat illnesses. Some examples of foods high in these vitamins and minerals are below.
Take Care Of Your Body
You should also make sure that you take care of your body. To achieve this, you should consume healthy food, drink enough water, get enough sleep, and exercise.
College Tip 2: Take Care of Your Mental Health
College is hard and can definitely take a toll on your mental health. And, on top of that, school just happens to roll around when fall is starting, which coincides with a rise in cases of seasonal depression. So, my next college tip for this semester is to make sure that you are taking care of your mental health!
One way that you can do this is by making sure that you schedule regular breaks. You can also try out different self-care activities like hiking, reading a book, draw, or dancing to music to help you destress.
Something else that you should consider is talking to someone else. Just make sure that you trust the person enough to mention your thoughts or situations with them. A great person would be one of your closest friends. However, if you can’t tell a friend, a good place to go to would be a counselor or therapist (your college should have a counseling center that you can visit).
College Tip 3: Take Safety Measures
The last college tip that I have for you is to make sure that you take appropriate safety precautions and check in with your close family and friends regularly. Why? Well, considering all the things that are happening in the world, it is better to be safe than sorry. So, some basic tips are:
- Stay away from shady/suspicious areas and trust your gut.
- Try to travel with someone that you trust.
- Make sure that you tell someone where you are going. If you are really close to them, you can even share your location with them.
- Ensure that your emergency contacts are easily accessible (if you need an emergency contact list, you can download one here).
Having these systems in place will not only keep you peace of mind, but they will also be in place in case an emergency does happen.
I hope that you enjoyed this post about different college tips that will be helpful for students this year.
